This is the one field guide every crew needs. The other field articles are reference modules. Use only the ones your job requires.
Your job should tell you the objects you work on, what the map icons mean, which details and photographs are required, whether measurement or guy work applies, and how to tell an object is complete. If you are not sure, ask before the shift. The universal guide cannot safely invent those answers.
1. Start the shift ready
Do this while you still have reliable coverage.
Open the correct organization and job. Let the first sync finish and make sure the map covers the area you expect. See Sign in and pick a job.
Check the sync status. Start from
Synced, notPausedorOffline. See Check that your work is syncing.Prepare for lost coverage. If the job is offline, load the job and download the work area before leaving. See Work where there is no signal.
Test what the job needs. If your job requires photographs, confirm UtilityScout can open the camera. If it requires measurement, confirm the equipment and method before leaving.
Know your job's requirements. They are the authority for required fields, photographs, specialist actions and completion checks on this job.
Phone and measurement equipment
UtilityScout is iOS only. It is not available for Android, so do not plan a job around an Android phone.
Use an iPhone Pro for measurement data: scaled photos, AR guy placement, and high-accuracy measurement. The app does not enforce that requirement, but a non-Pro iPhone is not built for it.
A regular iPhone is fine for simple photos and filling in attribute data. Reserve the Pro phones on the crew for measurement work.
For high-accuracy work, make sure the target version selected in the app matches the bracket on your stick. There are two designs, and the app trusts the selection without warning if it is wrong. The method itself belongs to your job. Do not choose it from general guidance at the pole.

Run the current App Store version. If UtilityScout offers an update, take it before the shift. Do not compare version numbers inside the app. The displayed number is not a dependable build identifier. On a managed phone, ask whoever manages the device to push the update.
2. Complete the required record at one object
Repeat this loop at every object. There is no universal sequence of details, photographs and measurement. Your job decides which actions are required and in what order they make sense.
Make sure you work on the correct object. Select an existing object, or place one only when the job requires adding it. The selected object is highlighted.
Check your job's requirements for that object type. They should tell you which details, photographs and specialist actions are required.
Complete only the required work. Use the relevant module below when you need procedural help.
Check the result before walking away. Use your job's completion check. A map color is not a universal confirmation because every organization controls its own icons.
Record an exception instead of guessing. If a required action or field is missing, capture the job, object, action and message for the supervisor.

Move a pole or update its location. Confirm Location commits the pin. Update Measurements is a different commit, used when measurements should follow the new place.
3. Finish the shift without losing work
Check the sync status. If it says
Paused, turn syncing back on. If it saysOffline, return to coverage.Wait for
Synced. That is the confirmation that the phone has finished sending what it holds.Do not sign out, delete or reinstall UtilityScout with unsent work. Those recovery attempts can turn a sync problem into lost data.
If it will not reach Synced, keep the app open in reliable coverage and use When something goes wrong out in the field.
