Measure a midspan (High Accuracy)

Measure a midspan clearance in High Accuracy mode with the stick, including offset conductors and lines that cross at different points.

Use this module when your job asks for a clearance reading at the middle of a span, such as a road, driveway, or another line crossing overhead, rather than at a pole itself. What you see is built from your company's configuration, so names may differ.

Setting up the stick

Position the stick so its base sits directly under whatever you are measuring, not under a pole. If a line is hanging overhead, the bottom of the stick becomes your drop point. See Set up your accuracy stick if you have not checked it recently.

The stick does not need to be level. You can move its legs out to any angle and still get an accurate reading. The app accounts for the stick's own tilt when it works out the measurement.


Starting the measurement

Tap the midspan point on the map and confirm you are in high accuracy mode. From here the flow works a lot like measuring a pole: capture the tilt of the stick twice, making sure the phone's camera bump clears the top, then rest a flat surface against the target the same way you would for a pole.


Framing and capturing

Walk back far enough that you can see the lines you want to measure inside the camera frame, then take the photo. The app finds the targets on its own and works out the height of each line running through the frame, measured straight up from the drop point at the base of the stick.

  • You do not need a square 90 degree shot. About 45 degrees is fine.

  • Stand slightly to the side so the stand does not hide the target centers.

  • In a tight alley, tilt the targets toward the camera so both stay in view.

Important: Your job asks for a clearance on the wire. Height is the wire, not the yellow vertical line. The yellow vertical line is a guide on the screen. If you do not put an attachment on the cable, the height can go to infinity.

Put an attachment on the cable and call it midspan. It then imports as a midspan point, not a pole.
