The map is the live picture: everything captured so far on the jobs you choose, and where your crews are right now.
Your organization's own configuration builds what appears on it, so the object types and the tools for creating them will be yours. See Why your screens may not match this guide.
Who gets it in their menu
More people than get the rest of the data area. Workforce managers in particular get only the map out of the data area, deliberately, because seeing where crews are is the whole of what they need.
Seeing where your crews are
Live fielder positions appear on the map, showing who is where and when they were last seen.
Two things both have to be true for anyone to see them:
Your role has to include it. Organization admins and workforce managers see fielder positions. Other roles that get the map will simply see no one on it.
Your organization has to have field location sharing switched on. It is a single setting for the whole organization, and while it is off nobody sees fielder positions, including admins.
So "I cannot see my crews" has two quite different causes, and it is worth checking the second before assuming the first.
If your crews appear and then vanish
This is the one quirk on this screen worth knowing in advance.
While the map still works out whether your organization has location sharing on, it assumes yes. If the answer comes back no, the fielder positions disappear a moment after they appeared.
That is not a fault and it is not a connection problem. It means your organization has switched off location sharing. If you want it on, that is a setting an administrator changes once.
Switching between map styles
There are two map renderings and you can switch between them yourself, from the map's header.
One of them is labeled as beta. That label is about the map rendering, not about your data, and if the beta one misbehaves you can simply switch to the other. Neither changes anything you have captured.
Working with jobs on the map
Choose which job you look at from the map itself, and it will move to that job's area.
If the map seems stuck on the previous job's area, refresh the page. Tell us if it keeps happening after that.
Adding things from the map
The map has its own tools for placing objects, and which ones you get comes from your configuration.
Creation mode keeps adding until you stop it. By default it does not drop out after you place one thing, which is deliberate for placing several in a row, and there is an explicit control to stop. There is also a "Continue adding" option in the placement options, so if your map does leave creation mode after a single placement, that is the setting to check. If the map seems to behave oddly, check whether you are still in creation mode.
If drawing a line tells you no line template is configured, that is a configuration gap rather than a fault. See "No line template configured" when I draw a line.
The map's panels
Field users, which you can filter, and which offers to zoom out to show everyone at once.
Export status, which expands for detail. See Review what your crews captured.
Map statistics, which pairs how many objects are on the map with how many of them have already been exported. The first is a live count that goes up as objects are added.
Finding one object
You can search the map for items or for a location, which is usually faster than hunting visually on a large job.
How this fits with the rest
The map answers where. For how much and how fast, see Field Efficiency, and what each number means. For what one person did on one day, see Replay a fielder's day. For the job list itself, see Find and manage your jobs.
