Create a configuration from scratch

Start from a blank configuration, and what Cloneable sets up for you when you do.

Written by Ryan Miller

Building from scratch is the fastest way to get a working configuration when you have no Katapult model and no map file to import, or when you would rather set everything up yourself.

Getting there

Open Dashboard → Configurations (the Import/Edit quick action), or Settings → Configurations. If the tab is empty, turn on Enable Utility Pole Inspection first.

On the Configuration Selection card, open the green New Configuration button's dropdown and choose Blank configuration.

Blank is not empty

A New Configuration modal opens and asks for a Configuration Name, which identifies your configuration and its data templates. Underneath it, a panel headed Standard configuration includes: lists what you are actually about to create:

  • Pole Measurement Workflow

  • Guy Wire Measurement Workflow

  • Data templates for Pole, Span, Span Measurement, and Guy Anchor

  • The relationships already configured between those templates

Choosing Blank does not hand you an empty slate. Pressing Create Configuration seeds all of the above automatically. If you expected to build every workflow and template by hand, you can skip straight past that work, since it already exists. If you expected genuinely nothing until you added it yourself, know that this starting point already has structure in it.

The modal also offers a Skip Setup button next to Create Configuration. What it changes about the setup above is not documented yet. If you need to know exactly what it skips before using it, ask us.

What happens after you create it

A progress modal saves each workflow in turn. When it finishes, the five-stage configuration wizard opens on Project Setup, with your configuration name already carried over, Measurement Unit defaulting to Metric, and both Enable Field Measurement Capture and Enable Ground Line Circumference switched off. A toast confirms your configuration "has been set up with workflows and data templates."

From here, continue into Set up your configuration, stage by stage to work through the rest of the wizard.
