Offline map will not download

Save a job basemap offline, retry a failed pack, or clear map cache as a last step.

Written by Ryan Miller

Use this when UtilityScout cannot download a map for offline use, the offline save fails at any zoom, or you need a working basemap before heading to a site without connectivity. Use Wi-Fi when possible and select the job on the map first, since offline download expects a job with placed objects and the save control may be hidden otherwise.

Download or repair the offline basemap

  1. Confirm you are online (Wi-Fi preferred) before starting the download.

  2. On UtilityScout, select the job on the map.

  3. Tap Save basemap offline under the job selector (or open Map Options → Offline BasemapsSave basemap offline on the "This job" row).

  4. Watch the percentage. Success shows Basemap saved. Failure shows Retry - tap Retry once after confirming connectivity.

  5. If a pack looks bad, remove it with Remove on the saved basemap confirm, then download again.

  6. If the download keeps failing on low device storage, open Map OptionsOffline Basemaps and check the storage bar (it turns orange past 90% of quota). Delete basemaps for jobs you've already finished from the Other saved basemaps list (trash icon) to free space, then retry.

  7. Secondary only, if freeing space that way doesn't help: Settings → StorageClear Map Cache (read the warning), then retry Save basemap offline.

  8. If your build is outdated, update UtilityScout from the App Store, then retry. Settings shows the app version; watch for an Update Available alert on login or home when one is offered.

If something goes wrong

  • Include the Utility Map job link, a screenshot of the error or Retry state, and whether you already cleared map cache. Support may ask for Upload Diagnostic Data. See What to send.

Important: Download still fails on a current build after Remove + retry → Create a ticket.

Next: keep the rest of your work available before you head out of signal. See Work where there is no signal.
