Setting accurate heading directions for attachments helps document which way equipment faces on the pole. This guide explains how to use the visual heading tool to set attachment directions relative to True North.

Understanding Attachment Headings

Attachment heading indicates the direction an attachment faces from the pole. This is crucial for:

  • Communication equipment (antennas, dishes)

  • Lighting fixtures

  • Security cameras

  • Any directional equipment mounted on poles

Important: All headings are recorded relative to True North, not magnetic north, ensuring consistent and accurate documentation across all locations.

Steps to Set Attachment Heading

Step 1: Select the Attachment

Tap on the attachment you want to set a heading for. The attachment will be highlighted, confirming your selection.

Note: Each attachment's heading is set individually, allowing different directions for multiple attachments on the same pole.

Step 2: Open the Heading Tool

With the attachment selected:

  1. Locate the Add Attachment Heading button at the top of your screen

  2. Tap the button to launch the heading interface

Step 3: Use the Top-Down View

The heading interface displays:

  • A top-down view of the pole (looking down from above)

  • A direction indicator showing the attachment's current heading

  • A slider for adjusting the direction

  • True North clearly marked as the reference point

Step 4: Set the Direction

You have two ways to align the attachment heading:

Method 1: Using the Slider

  • Drag the slider left or right to rotate the attachment direction

  • The visual indicator rotates in real-time as you adjust

  • Fine-tune until the indicator points in the correct direction relative to True North

Method 2: Using Physical Alignment

  • Key Feature: As you turn your phone, the view automatically rotates to maintain True North orientation

  • This means True North always points "up" on your screen regardless of how you hold your device

  • Simply face the same direction as the attachment and align the indicator to point straight ahead

Step 5: Confirm the Heading

Once properly aligned:

  1. Verify the heading matches the real-world attachment direction

  2. Tap Save or Confirm to set the heading

  3. The interface will close and return to the map view

How the Auto-Rotation Works

🧭 True North Integration: The view automatically compensates for magnetic declination to show True North

πŸ“± Dynamic Display: As you physically turn, the pole view rotates opposite to your movement, keeping True North at the top

🎯 Real-World Reference: This makes it intuitive to match the on-screen direction with what you see in the field

Example Workflow:

  1. Stand facing the same direction as the attachment

  2. Open the heading tool

  3. The view auto-rotates so True North is up

  4. Set the indicator to point "away from you" on screen

  5. This matches the real-world attachment direction
