I changed a guy wire's numbers and confirming did nothing

Save your edit using the button inside the guy wire editor; the confirm on the card below it does nothing.

Written by Ryan Miller

Short answer: use the save inside the editor itself, not the confirm option on the sheet below it.

What is happening

When you edit a guy wire, the editor that opens has its own save and cancel. Those are the ones that work.

At the same time, the sheet underneath offers something that looks like it also confirms. It does not do anything. Both are visible at once, which is why this is easy to hit and easy to repeat.

What to do

  1. Adjust the angle and the lead length until the wire looks right on the map. The map updates as you change the numbers, so you can see it swing.

  2. Save from within the editor, using the save that belongs to the editor itself.

  3. Check the numbers on the wire afterwards to confirm they took.

Important: If you tapped the outer card's confirm instead, the panel closed and the edits were discarded. The numbers were not saved and are not waiting to be saved. Open the guy wire again, re-enter the angle and lead length, and save from inside the editor. Then check the numbers on the wire before you walk off.

Check your work before moving on

Because two controls look alike here, it is worth a habit: after saving a guy, look at the wire's numbers once before you walk away. It takes a second and it means you find out at the pole rather than in the office.

We know about this

This is our problem, not yours, and it is on our list to fix. In the meantime the editor's own save is reliable, so you lose nothing by using it.

If you have poles where a guy's numbers look wrong and you think this is why, tell us which job and roughly when, and we can check whether the values landed.
