Your sign-in does not last forever. After about two weeks it expires on its own (the same session length noted in Start here), and it can also end sooner, for example if an admin ends your access or if the app repeatedly fails to authenticate with the server. When that happens while you are out working, UtilityScout does not just dump you back to a login screen. It shows a re-auth lock, and the most important thing to know is that your work is safe.
What to do
If you are mid-capture, finish it and tap Done so your work is saved.
Tap Re-authenticate (or Sign in on the banner).
Sign in again with your emailed one-time code, exactly as you did the first time.
What you see depends on whether you are in the middle of something. If you are not running any workflow (you are just looking at the map or moving around the app), a full card takes over the screen. It says "You've been signed out," explains that your session expired and to sign in again to keep working, and reassures you that "Your data is safe and saved on this device." It offers two choices: Re-authenticate and Log out. If instead you are in the middle of a workflow of any kind (a pole form, a guy or anchor form, a height capture, a measurement), you get a slim banner at the top rather than a full card. It tells you that you have been signed out and to finish and tap Done, then sign in, so you can save what you are doing before you stop.
The reassurance is real: signing back in does not erase anything. The lock never clears your cached or unsynced work; it is only a gate asking you to prove who you are again. So the safe routine is simple. If you are mid-capture, finish it and tap Done so it is saved, then tap Re-authenticate (or Sign in on the banner) and sign in again with your emailed one-time code, exactly as you did the first time.
One point of confusion worth heading off: Steps 3-5: Prep the device warns that logging out can clear unsynced work. That warning is about the Log Out button on the Settings screen, which is a separate button. The Log out on this expiry lock does not wipe your saved work, though the app still shows a caution if anything is unsynced. Either way, the smart move when your session expires is simply to finish, save, and re-authenticate rather than log out.
